The feeling of unboxing a new pair of shoes is great, isn't it? However, the problem that we often encounter is that after just one walk down the street, the shoes are dull, especially if your shoes are white. After a few times carrying shoes to the gym, or encountering some sudden rain, your shoes are almost finished! Sports shoes are an investment worthy of careful shoe care and hygiene. Although the way to clean shoes doesn't differ much between fabrics, there are some methods that are particularly effective with certain materials. This article will show you how to clean shoes according to each material.

The first important thing: You should avoid cleaning your shoes in the washing machine.

And don't forget to clean the inside of the shoes!

The first important thing: You should avoid cleaning your shoes in the washing machine.

The washing machine will affect the structure and condition of the shoe cushion, reducing the elastic feel and stability of the shoe. This is a big problem, especially with running shoes.

Some mattresses are more sensitive to water and high temperatures. Some shoe brands post the composition of the sole in the product description on their website. Usually all shoes are made from EVA, an elastomeric rubber material that makes cushions soft and stretchy, and should be hand washed. This material is very absorbent, hindering the performance of the cushion in the shoe. The buffer is made up of TPU, a more durable and water-repellent flexible plastic that may not be affected much by machine washing. But cleaning each stain is the safest way to clean shoes. Doing so also helps prolong the life of your shoes.

It is advisable to remove the mud before tossing the shoes in the washing machine. At the same time, you should wash the shoelaces separately. You can put the shoelaces in a pillowcase or mesh bag to prevent them from getting tangled. Using a small amount of mild detergent, put a few towels in the washing machine along with the shoes. Leave the machine on the gentle cycle, using cold water and a slower spin. When the machine has finished washing, you should dry the shoes naturally. Do not dry with a hair dryer. High temperatures will cause some parts of the shoes to be damaged.

1. Mesh canvas shoes

Nylon mesh fabric is a great material for running shoes because of its good breathability. But soil and dirt easily cling to the openings in the shoes during practice. Should use a dry brush to clean shoes, brush away dirt stains. Then mix a mixture of one part baking soda and one part vinegar and apply it to the stains and let it sit for 15 minutes. Apply evenly on shoes for 1 to 2 minutes. Then wipe the shoes with a soft cloth. Let the shoes dry on their own.

Using a brush is the simplest and most effective way to pre-clean shoes. The bristles are soft enough to not scratch the fabric, but also hard enough to get rid of shoe stains. You can also find specialized brushes for cleaning sneakers, made from a variety of materials such as pig hair, horse hair, and synthetic hair. Or simply you can use an old toothbrush or buy a vegetable brush. Usually, for the softer sides of the shoe, use a soft bristle brush. And use a stiffer bristle brush on hard surfaces

2. Artificial leather shoes

Soak a towel in warm water and detergent to clean artificial leather shoes. Clean the stains on the shoes. Then brush gently for 1 or 2 minutes. Wipe the shoes with a soft cloth and let the shoes dry on their own. You will find that stains are easily removed, as they do not penetrate as deeply into artificial leather as mesh fabric.

If your shoes are white, you can try Mr.Clean's multi-purpose cleaner - a cleaning sponge made from melamine foam - that works on every part of the shoe. The product is very benign and helps remove stains effectively. You just need to wet the sponge and wipe away the stains. For extra safety, this product should only be used with white shoes to avoid fading. This is completely a home shoe cleaning method that you can easily apply.

3. Knitted fabric

Treat woven shoes as gently as possible. Because woven fabric is very soft and fragile compared to other fabrics. Avoid using a brush to clean shoes as they are a bit stiff compared to other fabrics. For textile running shoes, a soft towel is recommended. It will take a little more effort to clean the stain, but it will work anyway.

Be careful with laundry detergent, sometimes some chemicals can be too harsh on fabrics. Instead, use a mild soap bar. Soak a washcloth in cold water and apply the soap evenly over the shoes. Once the stain is gone, wipe off excess soap with a damp cloth and let the shoe air-dry.
